The College of Pharmacy External Relations Unit is seeking a Communications Coordinator. This position supports the college’s strategic communication and administrative efforts through a variety of tasks that enhance visibility, engagement and operational efficiency. Responsibilities include developing and implementing messaging across digital platforms. The role also involves greeting guests, providing back-up support for the Dean’s Office, assisting with events, and contributing to public relations initiatives. Additionally, the position supports information management by tracking engagement, monitoring collegiate news and communication metrics and may assist with budget monitoring and supervision of student staff.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Message Development and Implementation

  • Under direction, manage the dean’s social media presence including creating, publishing and tracking engagement. Propose and implement approved communication strategies and develop content that best conveys key messages.
  • Post and track content for internal and external constituents, consistent with the college brand.  
  • Develop and implement clear, engaging messaging across multiple social media platforms.  
  • Create digital signage, track, edit and refresh content on a regular basis. 

Public Relations 

  • Greet and assist guests in the Dean’s Office, providing a professional and welcoming presence for visitors, students, and stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development and execution of marketing and communication plans for college initiatives, events, and outreach efforts.
  • Promote the college and its programs through consistent messaging aligned with established marketing strategies and brand guidelines.
  • Maintain familiarity with key stakeholders and support relationship-building efforts through effective communication and event coordination.

Information Management

  • Primary point of contact for the dean’s office, providing information and responding to inquiries.  
  • Gather and share information about the college using available resources.  
  • Contribute data and insights to help evaluate the effectiveness of specific communication efforts.
  • Track and report key communication metrics to evaluate effectiveness and inform strategy.

Strategic Planning 

  • May assist in the coordination/ preparation of strategic communications plans in support of a project, program, department, or college/unit.
  • Align personal goals to that of the unit and college.  

Financial Responsibility

  • Monitor expenditures and reconcile statements as needed. Determine project or event costs and provide input to budget development.
  • May monitor and report on designated budget components.

Leadership/Supervision

  • May direct the work of staff/student volunteers during external relations and/or dean’s office events.

Education Requirement

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications or journalism; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in an office setting.  

Required Qualifications 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with social media and posting social media content in a professional manner.

Desirable Qualifications 

  • Proficiency with content management systems and basic graphic design or video editing is a plus.
