University of Iowa Health Care is seeking its next talented communications specialist to join the team. This role supports the strategic development, execution, and implementation of internal communications for University of Iowa Health Care. This includes the day-to-day operation of our daily publication Noon News and online news site The Loop. This person will collaborate with faculty and staff within UI Hospitals & Clinics, UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital, and UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine to create compelling content and advise on the delivery of internal messages.

Position Responsibilities:

•    Develop or assist in developing strategic communications plans in support of a project, program, department, or college/unit within UI Health Care. 
•    Ensure timely delivery of daily, weekly, and ongoing communications for internal website (The Loop), daily newsletter (Noon News), digital signage, and other distribution channels.
•    Work collaboratively with colleagues in Marketing and Communications and other departments to identify and produce content.
•    Interview subject matter experts and convey complex information to various audiences.
•    Edit and proofread communications. Be an advocate for consistent, correct usage of style guidelines, including UI Health Care, UI, and AP style applications. 
•    Edit the work of internal, student, and freelance writers; suggest story angles, sources to contact, and information to obtain; provide editorial guidance and feedback.
•    Measure and report on communications performance on a weekly basis and make recommendations based on findings.
•    Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including UI Health Care committees.

•    Keep abreast of best practices related to print and online communications and technologies.
•    Identify key messages and the communication vehicles to communicate these messages; promote consistency, integrity, and appropriate focus for each vehicle and each audience.

Required Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•    Minimum three years of professional experience in communications, journalism, or public relations.
•    Understanding of content development for digital communications.
•    Ability to write and edit content for a wide variety of communication materials—short news items, in-depth articles, web content, brochures, etc.
•    Planning, organizing, monitoring, and managing projects to ensure efficient use of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
•    Familiarity with graphic design, photography, and video production. Professional experience preferred.
•    Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines.

Desired Qualifications:

•    Familiarity with fast-paced environments. Professional experience as a writer, copy editor, or another relevant role is preferred.
•    Efficient project management skills, including work on a high volume of projects. 
•    Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills. 
•    Proven communications consultative, planning, and execution abilities. 
•    Creativity and imagination.
•    Professional work experience in academics or health care.
•    Ability to understand and effectively communicate complex information to various audiences.
•    Possess high personal motivation with strong work ethic and ability to adapt to changing priorities. 
•    Have a positive influence on others and be able to work effectively in a collaborative environment that expects and promotes teamwork.
