Typically, 3-5 years relevant professional experience completing design assignments across a wide range of traditional applications (e.g. publications, posters, event-support, static displays, presentation-support, illustrations, etc.), including the following skillsets:
Graphic Design – Extensive Experience
Knowledge of and ability to apply design principles to the development and publication of organizational information.
Graphic Tools – Extensive Experience
Knowledge of tools and techniques to produce graphic communications materials.
Project Management – Extensive Experience
Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and creative resources, to achieve project objectives.
Accuracy and
Attention to Detail - Extensive Experience
Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and
attention to detail; ability to process information with high levels of
accuracy.
Written
Communications - Extensive Experience
Knowledge of written communications issues and ability to
produce a variety of business documents that demonstrate command of language,
clarity of thought, and orderliness of presentation.
Communicating Complex
Concepts – Working Experience
Knowledge of, and the ability to use summarization and
simplification techniques to explain complex technical concepts in simple,
clear language appropriate to the audience.
Proficiency with
Windows and/or Mac OS.
Expert-level
proficiency in the use of Adobe InDesign, and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Highly proficient in
Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Ability to generate
and process bitmap and vector source artwork at the highest professional level,
utilizing programs such as Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator (or
equivalent).
HIGHLY Desirable:
Relationship
Management – Working Experience
Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships
and partnerships with colleagues within and external to own unit, those to whom
services are provided, vendors, the public, regulatory/governmental agencies,
etc., all of whom may be seen as "customers" or receivers of services
provided by the University.
Extensive knowledge
of cost/quality/turnaround factors and considerations of various design and
production techniques.
Experience
collaborating with fellow creative professionals (photographers, illustrators,
etc.) and/or effectively employing stock-art services to yield source material
for use in designs.
Desirable:
Experience working with various
boards and paper stocks; types of cameras; scanners, and printers; adhesives;
laminates and laminators; and mounting materials.
Experience providing
graphics-related training and support.
Experience producing
media in any adjacent technical fields, such as: video production, commercial photography,
traditional/computer animation, 3-D modeling, audio/radio, website development,
or interactive media production.
Applicable materials should clearly indicate
