Required:

  • A Juris Doctorate or equivalent degree in Law from an accredited law school is required.
  • The successful candidate will meet the following required qualifications:
    • Current license to practice law in the state of Iowa or current license in another jurisdiction with the documented reasonable expectation of becoming licensed in Iowa within 6 months.
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a sophisticated legal environment providing legal advice to and representation of clients on complex legal issues.
    • Experience providing legal advice and respresentation on a variety of issues involved with large complex organizations, including contracts, compliance, human resources. 
    • Excellent judgment, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and discretion.
    • Demonstrated job-related experience with and/or commitment to diversity in the work/academic environment.
    • Clear and concise written and oral communication skills demonstrating excellent analysis and reasoning. A professional writing sample also will be required later in the hiring process.
    • Flexibility and willingness to learn new areas of the law.
    • Professional ethics and integrity.

Desired:

  • Experience providing management side legal advice in large complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance and prioritize among multiple projects and initiatives involving diverse constituencies.
  • Experience and comfort with presentation of training materials to small or large groups with varying levels of knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Experience with higher education issues.
