The University of Iowa Pomerantz Career Center is seeking to hire a Director, Operations and Strategic Initiatives (100%). The Director, Operations and Strategic Initiatives will provide operational oversight for comprehensive career center, staff recruitment, training and onboarding as well as staff development and retention efforts. They will also have the opportunity to:

  • Develop and implement policies and practices in managing operations and administration of the Career Center by providing guidance and decision making for daily functions.
  • Lead office in strategic planning efforts and implementation of plan for the office.
  • Maintain relationships with collegiate leadership and act as liaison to areas such as Strategic Communications, Constituent Relations and campus external relations staff as needed.
  • Liaison with Office of the Provost HR representative(s) to ensure Career Center is in compliance with Provost Office and UI policies and procedures.

About the Department: The Pomerantz Career Center mission is to assist the University of Iowa with enrollment management by empowering undergraduate students to become leaders, maximize their potential, and achieve professional success. We accomplish this through professional advising, innovative and experiential education, and the development of extraordinary relationships with our stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Business, Organizational Development/Leadership or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing a comparable level of expertise.
  • Reasonable experience (5 years) of business or program operations management. This includes expert proficiency in project and resource management and leadership.
  • Occasional in-state and out-of-state travel required. This may include overnight travel, evening or weekend work as well as driving students in large metro areas.
  • A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy requirements.

Competencies Required:

Demonstrates an extensive proficiency level in the following competencies:

  • Creating action plans that ensure responsibilities are accomplished on time and per expectations; ability to identify potential disruptions and adjust plans accordingly on a case-by-case basis.
  • Marketing planning, implementation and assessment including use multiple promotional channels.
  • Team building, supervision and staff/professional development.
  • Excellent and effective communication skills (written and oral) including the ability to build and maintain relationships with individuals, teams and groups.
  • The ability to foster a welcoming and respectful workplace environment while recognizing personal differences.  

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, policies and practices for planning and administering a budget at an extensive to expert proficiency.
  • Experience working in a large and complex organization, particularly with a combination of central and decentralized models.

Work Modality: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Compensation: $75,000 - 85,000 with Competitive Benefits
