University of Iowa Health Care, Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, is seeking a 100% Echographic Diagnostic Assistant (PD42; 66) to perform ocular diagnostic examinations on patients, formulate diagnostic report on findings, record those findings in patient medical record to be reviewed by ordering physician; to collaborate with faculty, residents and fellows and instruct on ophthalmic echographic techniques.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform clinical ophthalmic diagnostic examinations on patients utilizing ultrasonic instrumentation.
  • Document the presence, location type and size in millimeters of ocular pathology with accuracy and precision.
  • Interpret diagnostic information obtained and save images for review by ordering physicians. Formulate and write a comprehensive medical result into patient record for physician review and signature. Utilize terminology and descriptions of pathology specific to ophthalmology.
  • Perform examinations on emergent and difficult patient conditions when needed; take equipment to operating rooms (ASC, MOR, and SFCH) as requested. Be available at times outside of regular work hours to perform examination as needed. Perform examinations on inpatients taking equipment to other areas in the hospital as need.
  • Recognize and treat appropriately serious, infectious or compromised ophthalmic conditions by using proper techniques to preserve the integrity of the eye and orbital tissues.
  • Responsible for assuring that orders placed and charges submitted are accurate. This includes checking that correct eye, diagnosis, and ordering staff physician are accurate.
  • Instruct and supervise faculty, fellows, residents, and staff in a clinical setting in all aspects of echographic examinations. Instruct through formal lectures, course instruction and hands on patient examinations.
  • Participate in research projects and scientific publications; contribute and collect data from past clinical examinations and findings. Formulate scientific publications singularly and in cooperation with physicians.
  • Responsible for proper maintenance of ultrasound equipment, probes and supplies. Recognize any malfunction or damage to equipment and arrange for repair or resolution of problem.
  • Maintain effective, positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, patients and the public.

Schedule: Preferred schedule Monday – Friday, 8:00a-5:00p. Schedule may be modified to fit candidate and clinic needs.

Salary: $53,988 – Commensurate

Pay Level: 66

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in the Health Science field or equivalent combination of related education and experience
  • 1-3 years experience in echography
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
