Iowa Health Care Engineering Services North Liberty is seeking a full-time Engineering Tech I. This position will be full-time with a primary schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday including weekends and holidays. Under direct supervision, assists in the preparation and review of engineering drawings, cost estimates, and project documentation. Provides support in managing engineering tasks, specifically related to Medical Gas Systems, and water testing, while collaborating with engineers and other staff members.

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025.  This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. These state-of-the-art clinical facilities will also include a full-service community imaging center, laboratory services, physical therapy, retail pharmacy, and emergency department as well as an array of support services.  The facility has been designed to support a superior patient and staff experience; excellence across our patient care, teaching and research missions; convenient access to services; and engaging community partnerships.  UI Health Care is seeking a welcoming, highly-skilled and collaborative workforce to be a part of the opening team for this superb new campus, and to help further our mission of: Changing Medicine. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with Engineering Drawings: Support the preparation of engineering drawings, including schematics, sketches, layouts, and basic specifications. Ensure that all documentation is accurate and organized
  • Review and Verification: Help review engineering drawings and cost estimates to verify accuracy and adherence to standards. Report any discrepancies to senior staff for further evaluation
  • Support Facility Projects: Assist in investigating materials and methods for building construction and renovations. Provide input based on established guidelines and recommendations from senior engineers
  • Medgas Systems: Assist in the installation, maintenance, and inspection of medical gas systems (6040 Certification). Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including safety protocols and operational procedures. Support testing and documentation for medgas systems to maintain compliance and functionality.
  • Backflow Prevention: Assist in the inspection, maintenance, and testing of backflow prevention systems. Ensure that these systems are functioning correctly to protect potable water supplies. Maintain relevant certification and adhere to local codes and regulations related to backflow prevention.
  • Water Testing: Support water quality testing procedures by collecting samples, preparing them for analysis, and recording results. Assist in interpreting test data and ensuring that water quality meets established safety and regulatory standards
  • Automation Systems: Assist in the design, programming, installation, and testing of basic automation systems under the guidance of senior technicians or engineers.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, architects, and other university staff to support facility planning and renovation projects. Communicate effectively to facilitate project tasks.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain design and as-built drawings, specifications, estimates, and other project documentation. Ensure that records are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Bid and Contract Support: Participate in reviewing bids and quotations. Assist in preparing documentation for contract awards and project procurement.
  • Maintenance Assistance: Provide support in performing preventive maintenance and repairs on technical equipment as directed, including medical gas systems, backflow prevention devices, and other relevant systems.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance: Assist in ensuring that all engineering tasks comply with relevant regulations and university policies. Follow established quality assurance procedures
  • Accreditation Support: Aid in organizing and maintaining documentation required for accreditation processes. Support the preparation of materials and information needed for accreditation evaluations.

MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Two years post high school education in a related technical field including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and/or heating, ventilating, and air conditioning, and
  • Two years related experience, which includes regular participation in activities such as project planning, designing, ensuring code compliance, estimating project costs, investigating problems, recommending actions or similar tasks, or
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience totaling four years.

Desired Certifications:

  • Certification in backflow prevention and testing is required or must be obtained within six months of employment.
