The University of Iowa department of Facilities Management is seeking a highly motivated HVAC professional to join the Building & Landscape Services unit as an Environmental Systems Mechanic II (ESM II). Under general supervision, performs skilled work in the area of installation, repair, alteration, replacement and maintenance of components of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating equipment.  This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled HVAC technician to provide critical support to campus buildings, systems and equipment.

Hours are 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.  May be required to work on call or work overtime as scheduled or in emergencies. Position has bloodborne pathogen exposure risk.

Facilities Management (FM) is a service unit of approximately 700 employees who work behind the scenes, 24 hours a day, serving the University of Iowa as stewards of our beautiful Iowa City campus.   FM staff coordinate campus master planning, manage design & construction, maintain & clean the buildings & the grounds, and provide utilities management.

Required Qualifications

  • Six years of experience in temperature and computerized building environmental automation systems, refrigeration or air conditioning work, including apprenticeship <or> Two years of experience in computerized building environmental automation systems plus four years of experience in temperature control, refrigeration or air conditioning work, including apprenticeship. 
  • Refrigeration certification of at least Type 2.
  • Experience with Johnson or Andover Controls
  • Valid drivers license and ability to meet and maintain compliance with the University’s Driving Policy.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous soldering experience.
  • Commercial / industrial HVAC experience.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Project work knowledge and use of equipment.
  • Public contact / customer service experience.
  • Mechanical license
  • Hydronic license
