The University of Iowa Department of Neurology is seeking a full-time Electroneurodiagnostic (END) Technologist to perform complex procedures, including continuous video electroencephalogram (EEG) Monitoring, developing and importing patient specific montages and digital spectral array, and analyzing ongoing data to assist during nuclear medicine procedures. The END Technologist will be trained to perform the aforementioned duties in the adult/pediatric Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), as well as patient bedside, in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and in various inpatient units.

Job Duties to Include:

  • Perform a broad range of complex electroneurodiagnostic procedures (e.g., continuous video EEG monitoring, developing and importing patient specific montages and digital spectral array, etc.) requiring independent judgment.
  • Interpret on-going data and prerecorded data, notifying appropriate staff when indicated.

     

  • Participate in on-call/call back coverage
  • Evaluate procedures and techniques used to elicit and display patient’s condition to physicians and neurosurgeons
  • Maintain recordings, transferring data, data base and network archival system.

     

  • Responsible for quality control of equipment, recognizing malfunction, trouble shooting and/or alerting appropriate staff.
  • Serve as a resource to faculty, staff, patients, and the community providing expert knowledge and behavioral skills that impact clinical practice and patient outcomes.
  • Participate in instruction of END students, electrophysiology fellows, medical residents, and other staff in methods of END technology. 
  • Participate in continuing educational opportunities by attending meetings, participating in professional organizations and review of journals and publications, actively participate in UI Health Care epilepsy case conference.
  • Assure and maintain competency in expertise in area of specialization as a requirement for NAEC Level IV accreditation.
  • Participate in research activities as directed by the EEG/EMU medical director.

     


Pay Grade: 28 - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans

Percent of Time: 90%-100%   

Schedule: This position works a rotating schedule, including weekends, with shifts between 8-10 hours long. This position will also participate in the holiday rotation, as well as on-call shifts (weekdays, weekends, and holidays).   

Supervision Received: Supervision received by EMU Lab Supervisor or designee.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a 24-month END Technology program or other applicable program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Eligible for certification by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic Technologists, American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists, or other applicable nationally recognized certifying agency.  Certification within nine (9) months following the start of employment is required.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
  • General computer skills

  • Advanced knowledge of neuroanatomy
  • Experience with IOM monitoring or willingness to learn
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize and coordinate multiple duties
  • Management experience
