Education Required:
· BA/BFA degree in theatrical production for theatre, dance and/or opera or equivalent educational and professional experience.
Required Qualifications:
• 1-2 years of experience in scenery fabrication.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently from blueprints and technical drawings with only verbal instructions from the shop supervisor, as demonstrated at a working proficiency level.
• Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately, and in a safe manner.
• Working experience and demonstrable skill in scenery construction, wood structural layout and construction techniques, metal structure layout and construction techniques. Knowledge of jigs and layout procedures.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with foam carving and shaping.
• Experience with finish carpentry including trim work, milling and shaping.
• Experience in training and mentoring students in theatrical construction techniques.
• Experience as a stage carpenter, flyman, and rigger in a proscenium theatre.
