Graduate Student Academic Services Coordinator
The Graduate College at the University of Iowa is seeking a Graduate Student Academic Services Coordinator. This role will provide academic services to enhance and support graduate students' educational experiences, success, academic progress, and degree completion. To that end, this position is responsible for: administration and management of graduate student degree progression and clearance, e.g., degree audit exceptions (50%); administration and management of U2G student degree progression (20%); academic advising of non-degree graduate students (20%); and communication and outreach related to graduate student academic progress and departmental stakeholder on-boarding (10%).
This position is eligible for hybrid work (combination of on campus and remote) within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Job Duties and Tasks
- Provide a broad range of programs and services focused on specific student populations that support current or prospective students' educational experience and retention.
- Monitor a graduate student's academic, career and personal goals/needs and provide individual guidance and assistance.
- Collect data, compile and prepare reports based on unit goals and make recommendations to the unit.
- Maintain student records/activities database.
- May manage a caseload.
- Track specific data and maintain reports on outcomes of programs and services.
- Facilitate the implementation of accommodation requests.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate projects and events with partners to meet program goals. Coordinate communication with partners.
- Gain understanding of relationships between and among partners. Collaborate with partners to maximize resources and connections.
- Develop and deliver presentations describing initiatives and services.
- May advise on administration, supervision, and/or training needs or discrepancies. May develop and manage a budget within specified guidelines. May provide direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to ensure outcomes are achieved.

Education or Equivalency Requirement
- A Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required. A Master’s degree in student affairs or a related field is highly desirable.
Required Qualifications
- Experience (typically 6 months to one year) in higher education.
Desirable Qualifications
- Working knowledge and understanding of student development. Working knowledge and understanding of University of Iowa student information system platforms.
- Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
- Working proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office (Teams, Co-Pilot, Word, Excel, Access, etc.) software applications.
- Demonstrates a working proficiency in the ability to collaborate and interact with individuals and groups.
- Demonstrates the basic ability to adjust and develop self to prepare for new or changing assignments, processes, people or priorities as organizational needs dictate at a working proficiency level.
