Education Requirement

  • A Master’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. 

Required Qualifications

  • Experience (typically one to three years) advising graduate students on careers or fellowships. 
  • Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills, particularly in context of providing constructive developmental editing and writing feedback; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level is required. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive manner while appreciating the unique contributions of each individual is required.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Standards.

 Desired Qualifications

  • PhD or postdoc experience or working proficiency with graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in STEM disciplines
  • Experience and working proficiency in public speaking and/or teaching.
  • Experience with working with international students/scholars.
  • Some knowledge of University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations is desirable.

    o Career support for graduate students (e.g., job searches, advising, workshops).
    o External fellowships support graduate students (e.g., identifying opportunities, application 
    feedback).
    o Supporting graduate students and postdocs from a wide range of backgrounds to help them be 
    successful.
  • Is there anything else you’d like us to know about you that’s relevant to this position?
