University of Iowa Health Care Perioperative Department is seeking a full-time Health Care Services Manager.  In conjunction with the Preoperative Services Director, the Health Care Services Manager is responsible for leading, managing, educating and coordinating the daily operations of the Perioperative Services – including the Main Operating Room, Day of Surgery Admissions, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, Ambulatory Surgery Center, and UI Children’s Hospital Operating Rooms – and identifying, developing, and implementing short- and long-range strategic objectives for the department.  This position works collaboratively with and serves as advisor to the leadership team on matters related to perioperative operations.

This position is responsible for providing advanced business development and financial management, analytics, strategy support and coordination. This includes overseeing and coordination of operating and capital budgets, preparation of financial, variance and productivity information, planning for growth and organizational improvement, and assisting with performance excellence activities for Perioperative Services. This position is also responsible for leading the Perioperative Services centralized scheduling operations as well as overseeing supply chain activities within the department.

Key Areas of Responsibility include:

  • Assists Perioperative leadership team in identifying staffing needs.
  • In conjunction with nursing management team, actively manages unit-level position control documents to ensure staffing levels are within budgeted staffing targets.
  • Lead development of annual Perioperative operating budgets and initiatives to achieve operating plan, in conjunction with Perioperative Services Director.
  • Collaborates with UI Health Care Supply Chain department and UI Purchasing to optimize Perioperative supply inventory levels.
  • Monitors budget trends/variances and identifies opportunities for improvement in budget performance.
  • Identifies capital equipment requirements and forecasts capital purchase needs based on amortization schedule of existing equipment inventory.
  • Provides oversight of Perioperative central scheduling office including supervisory responsibility of central scheduling team.
  • Monitors Operating Room scheduling workflows to optimize utilization of Operating Room time in each of the Perioperative locations.
  • Collaborates with Perioperative Nursing leadership to align Operating Room allocations with nurse staffing targets.
  • Prepares and delivers reports to operational leadership outlining progress toward meeting annual goals and objectives, to include performance related to finance, clinical activity, quality, safety, and human resources.

Percent of Time: 100% - 40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday - Friday 0700-1700

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in a business or other related field or equivalent years of experience.
  • 3 years of experience in progressively advanced health care financial, operational, or analysis roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial analysis, financial management, and budgeting.
  • Competency in complex financial and statistical analysis and ability to consolidate information into clear analysis and narrative/presentation formats.
  • Experience developing high performing flexible workforce including monitoring performance and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Professional job-related experience fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated; or demonstrated the ability to do so
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in computer software applications.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of computer processing and database query languages.
  • Previous experience with Epic electronic medical record software.
  • Previous experience working in a large academic medical center or large complex health care organization.
