The Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHS) at the University of Iowa seeks an Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) Coordinator to provide administrative support for the University's biosafety compliance programs and IBC. Responsibilities include administrative review and routing of IBC submissions, committee coordination, compliance tracking, records management, and researcher communications. As a member of the EHS Safety Advisor team, the position also conducts selected laboratory inspections and supports institutional biosafety compliance activities. This position reports to the Biological Safety Officer.

Work Modality:  Hybrid within Iowa, 1 assigned remote workday a week

About Pay and Compensation:
Pay Grade:  3A

The hiring range for this position is anticipated to be $50,000-$54,000 Salary offers are based on a variety of factors, including education, experience, skills, and budget considerations. In limited circumstances, compensation outside of the anticipated range may be considered for candidates with exceptional qualifications.

Qualifications:

Education or Equivalency Required:
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required Qualifications:

·         Typically, six months to one year of practical experience in a biomedical, biological, or life science research laboratory.

·         Demonstrated foundational knowledge of biological research methods, including recombinant DNA, and experimental design sufficient to understand research protocols involving biological materials and identify required information during administrative review of IBC submissions.

·         Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and summarize scientific or technical information.

·         Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·         Demonstrated strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

·         Demonstrated interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and research personnel.

·         Demonstrated proficiency using databases, electronic record systems, and standard business software applications.

Highly Desirable Qualifications:

·         Experience working with research compliance programs in an academic or biomedical research environment.

Desirable Qualifications:

·         Knowledge of higher education policies, procedures and regulations.

·         Familiarity with biological safety regulations and consensus standards.

·         Familiarity with animal protocols used in animal research.

This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment.
