The University of Iowa is seeking a Marketing and Communication Administration Assistant within the Graduate College. This entry-level position will provide key administrative and operational support for various units within the Press, the university’s book publishing house. This includes managing multiple calendars and schedules, overseeing awards submissions for 30+ books per season, assisting with various aspects of marketing and communication including creating marketing collateral and serving as a frontline resource for author care and management, and assisting other departments as needed. This position requires a high level of critical-thinking skills, accuracy and attention to detail, as well as the ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects. This is a full-time, on-campus position. A successful candidate will be a positive self-starter with the ability to adapt to unexpected changes and make decisions that reflect leadership priorities.

Specific Job Duties and Tasks

  • Create basic editorial, social media, multimedia, or other content. Accurately research, organize, and interpret information. Help review other's work for quality and accuracy. Provide data for assessment of the effectiveness of individual communication efforts.
  • Collate catalog copy drafts each season.
  • Manage seasonal catalog schedule.
  • Identify stakeholders. Assist in media relations plan and sustain relationships with media relations personnel. Pitch stories to media. May provide support for outreach events.
  • Oversee organization and logistics for all aspects of book fairs, conferences, and other professional meetings.
  • Work with the marketing director to determine various metadata for all titles and manage data entry into ONYX feed.
  • Oversee awards submission budget and program for all titles.
  • Oversee advertising budget and plan for all titles.
  • May assist in the coordination/ preparation of strategic communications plans in support of a project, program, department, or college/unit.
  • May provide direction, assignments, and feedback to student workers and/or staff.

Education Requirement

  • A Bachelors Degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to complete multiple projects with competing deadlines.  Superior organizational and prioritization skills; deadline-driven.
  • Ability to manage detailed calendars and respond to internal and external urgent requests.
  • Driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.

 Desired Qualifications

  • Proficient in using macOS for professional tasks.
  • Familiar with Chicago and/or MLA style.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience managing social media for business use.
