The College of Education intends to hire for one position of Methodologist at either the Associate Research Scientist or Assistant Research Scientist classification based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Methodologist - Associate Research Scientist
To enhance the research mission of the College of Education’s Scanlan Center for School Mental Health and Belin-Blank Center by supporting both Center’s faculty and staff identify and implement appropriate quantitative and qualitative methodological designs and analyses.
This is a split position between the Scanlan Center for School Mental Health and The Belin-Blank Center. Specific responsibilities include providing support for grants, assisting with program evaluation, contributing to writing grant proposals, strong methodological skills, working with large datasets, collaborating with colleagues, and assisting in the preparation of manuscripts for publication and/or public dissemination.
Type of appointment: Full-time, 12 month, Professional and Scientific position with an annual evaluation. At Will Status. Three-year appointment which may renewable.
Location: Blank Honors Center, Iowa City, IA
Specific Job Duties and Tasks - Methodologist - Associate Research Scientist
- Collaborate with faculty partners and graduate students from Scanlan and Belin-Blank on research projects.
- Work independently on a variety of research tasks with the oversight of Scanlan and Belin-Blank directors and other faculty/staff.
- Analyze data for accuracy and data integrity.
- Compare results of scientific investigations to previously published work.
- Prepare manuscripts with contributing authors for publication.
- Present results to collegiate and university colleagues and at professional meetings.
- Develop research proposals for external funding agencies in collaboration with Scanlan and Belin-Blank Center directors, staff, and faculty.
- Contribute to progress reports required by external agencies.
- Provide service to the discipline-specific scientific community, University, and the general public.
- Review submitted manuscripts and/or research proposals.
- Mentor graduate students and supervise research projects as needed.
- May provide functional supervision for staff on research projects.

Education Requirement
- Position requires a Ph.D. in Educational Measurement and Statistics, Educational Psychology, or a related field.
Required Qualifications
- 3 - 5 years of experience required working with qualitative and quantitative analytic methods.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in working with researchers in the school mental health and education fields.
- Proven track records of preparing proposals and manuscripts for conference presentations and publication.
- Professional experience in fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful working environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience (3 -5 years) with large scale standardized testing and the design and execution of psychometric research.
- Experience with emerging tools (E.g., AI, machine learning) in education. Candidate should understand their applications for assessment and intervention as opportunities for research are available.
- Experience organizing and implementing grant-funded programs.
