The University of Iowa Health Care department of Food & Nutrition is seeking a Manager for Mother’s Milk Bank. This position will provide, supervise, and perform health care services of the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa that assures effective and safe delivery of pasteurized donor human milk to hospitals and to infants at home and across the nation. Develops and manages the performance of staff.  This position is also a preceptor for Master of Clinical Nutrition students.

Additional Duties:

Human Resources Management:

Assist in hiring staff. Develop and manage the performance of staff; assure staff are compliant with policies, procedures, and regulations. Provides feedback and supports HR initiatives in a positive manner.

Financial and Data Management and Analysis: 

Collect and analyze financial and productivity data. Utilize data to assist in budget development and preparation, resource allocations and cost containment strategies. Manage unit to meet budget goals.

Operations, Standards of Care, Regulatory Compliance, Quality and Patient Satisfaction: 

Ensure standards of care, regulatory compliance, QA and safety regulations are followed. Engage staff in meeting plan goals.

Services Delivery: 

Manage and lead day-to-day operation of the specialty laboratories (pre and pasteurization) of the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa.

Planning and Goal Management: 

Contribute to and lead activities relating to strategic planning and implementation for unit.

Communication/Collaboration: 

Collaborate with others on milk bank/health care teams and serve mainly as a technical donor milk resource expert to assure safe and effective use of pasteurized donor human milk in the delivery of care.  Communicate with, advise, review, establish milk collection depots and dispensaries.  Communicate with recipient family health care providers and obtain prescriptions.

Education Programs: 

Provide evaluative feedback to Master of Clinical Nutrition students to facilitate their education. Communicate medical information about milk banking and the Mother’s Milk Bank of Iowa to hospitals, health care professionals, patient families, coalitions and others. Organize, assist and hold milk bank exhibits at conferences and community events.

Pay Grade: 5A 

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm

Required Qualifications

·        Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Health Sciences, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        3-5 years of experience working in healthcare food service.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

·        Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

·        Proficiency with Microsoft computer applications.

Desired Qualifications

·        Clinical and laboratory management.

·        Demonstrated supervisory experience and project coordination.

·        Knowledge and understanding of human milk bank setting, policies, procedures and services to effectively communicate with patients, guests and staff.
