Patient Care Technician - Emergency Medicine - 60% - Downtown Campus

University of Iowa Health Care Medical Center Downtown (located at 500 E. Market Street, Iowa City, IA) is a 194-bed hospital that became part of Iowa’s only comprehensive academic health system on Jan. 31, 2024.
The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Emergency Medicine at the Downtown Campus is seeking to hire 90% Patient Care Technicians in the Emergency Department (ED). Under the direct supervision of Registered Nurses, the ED Patient Care Technician will perform specific tasks to assist members of the Nursing team in providing patient care.
Duties include (but not limited to):
- Perform EKGs throughout the Emergency Department as well as throughout the entire hospital.
- Set up rooms for patient admission.
- Clean equipment, patient bedside area and nursing unit.
- Transport patients by bed, cart or wheelchair.
- Stock and supply patient rooms and Nursing unit.
- Perform basic CPR as required.
- Maintain patient confidentiality.
- Assist patients with bedpans, urinals and perineal cleansing.
- Perform patient personal hygiene such as bathing, toileting, feeding, dressing, grooming and oral care for patients.
- Turn, position, and ambulate patients.
- Take temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
- Enter daily patient record charting in computer.
- Transport equipment, specimens and supplies.
Percent of Time: 60%
Schedule: 24 hours, two 12-hour shifts per week, with rotating holidays and weekends.

Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Ability to read, write and follow instructions
Desired Qualifications:
- Direct patient-care experience
- Work experience in a health care environment
- Strong written communication skills
- Customer service experience
- Certified Nursing Assistant or EMT certification/experience
- At least six months of recent Emergency Room experience
