The Department of Pathology is seeking a Quality and Operations Improvement Engineer (Quality Coordinator) to design, organize and coordinate quality system activities for the Microbiology and Molecular Pathology sections of the Clinical Pathology Laboratories.

This includes leading the implementation, evaluation, and optimization of quality assurance activities for the Microbiology and Molecular Pathology laboratory sections. Engages all staff in quality assurance activities. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies, accrediting agencies and organizational policies. Acts as Section’s primary contact for the Pathology Administration Quality Unit. Coordinates employee training and continuing education, validation testing, implementation, and maintenance of all equipment within the Microbiology and Molecular Pathology sections of the Clinical Pathology Laboratories.

This position is 100%-time, 1st shift, Monday-Friday.

 

Duties to include:

  • Responsible for development, implementation, and operational oversight of Quality Programs in the Microbiology/Molecular Pathology section.
  • Assists lead scientists by performing additional activities when needed to ensure smooth functioning of the laboratory.
  • Coordinates, reviews, manages, and maintains an Occurrence Management System for the Microbiology/Molecular Pathology section.
  • Assists in the preparation and on-site hosting of external inspections.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, or clinical laboratory science from an accredited institution, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  2. 1-3 years clinical laboratory experience.
  3. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with effective leadership skills.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work independently, to meet deadlines efficiently, to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and to be highly self-motivated is required.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  1. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or a categorical/specialist certification in a laboratory discipline from American Society for Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  2. 1-3 years quality program experience.
  3. Knowledge of the regulations and accrediting standards of the following agencies:  CMS, Joint Commission and/or CAP.
  4. Demonstrated ability to perform statistical and trend analysis.
  5. Knowledge of Centers for Medicare, and Medicaid Services (CMS) compliance program initiatives.
  6. Molecular Pathology or Clinical Microbiology laboratory experience.
  7. Experience working in an academic health center.
