The Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant (RA). The RA will assist in animal care for disease models involving bay, after hours, and weekend work. Animal care involves close monitoring, significant animal handling, feeding, implementation of a clinical plan, and assisting in reproductive technologies. Performing select bioassays are required for the care of disease animals. Execute planned research activities using observation, measurement and analytical techniques.

  

Other Duties to Include: 

·         Perform experimental procedures in mice, maintain records of drug treatments and rearing conditions, and record and consolidate data. Carry out animal colony maintenance, setting up breeders, weaning, collecting ear punches for genotyping using TransNetyx, and separating animals based on sex. Ability to carry out standard molecular biology techniques, including cell culture. Maintain detailed records of all the tasks, manage day-to-day lab maintenance activities, including but not limited to inventory logs, autoclave consumables, waste management etc.

·         Prepare data for analysis and assist in research and writing for the publication of manuscripts.

·         Assist in the maintenance of lab equipment.

·         Supervision is received from a designated official. Functional supervision may be exercised over support staff and students.

·         Ability to utilize existing resources and learning to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals/needs. Able to demonstrate ethical behavior in a variety of situations while producing results.

·         Ability to meet or exceed customer service needs and expectations and provide excellent service in a direct or indirect manner. Ability to effectively transmit and interpret information through appropriate communication with internal and external customers 

 

Percent of Time: 100% 

Pay Grade: 3A

Required Qualifications: 

·         Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required

·         Must be able to translate, adapt and apply that knowledge to perform beginning level research in a health science field or discipline.

·         Requires animal handling and husbandry experience with mice

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

·         Desired previous research experience (0.5 to 2 years) includes: wet lab experience, cell culture experience, using confocal microscope.
