Research Assistant or Associate-Department of Otolaryngology
QUALIFICATIONS
Research Assistant:
A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference: Biology, Microbiology, Genetics or Similar
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis and Sanger sequencing is required.
Experience with cloning and mammalian cell culture is highly desirable.
Experience and willingness to work with rodent animals (mice) and to acquire expertise in relevant histologic and surgical procedures under direction provided by principal investigator and other staff is highly desirable.
Experience with microscopy, including confocal, epiflourescent and / or light microscopy is desirable.
Experience mentoring undergraduate research students, including training in lab techniques and guiding research projects is desirable.
Experience with MS Excel, Word is required.
Research Associate:
· Experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR, RT-PCR, Sanger sequencing.
· Experience with bacterial cloning.
· Experience with RNA isolation
· Experience with mammalian cell culture
· Experience with acquisition and analysis of nucleic acid and amino acid sequence data
Experience managing large data sets and maintaining highly organized and detailed research records.
· Experience and willingness to work with rodent animals (mice) and to acquire expertise in relevant histologic and surgical procedures under direction provided by principal investigator and other staff.
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication (both verbal and written) skills
Willingness to learn relevant lab protocols under supervision of the principal investigator and other staff
Proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to analyze information and situations, prioritize tasks, develop solutions to challenges
Ability to use good judgment while working independently and in a team setting
Desirable Qualifications
· Experience with next generation sequencing
· Experience developing primers, amplimer validation and protocol development
· Experience preparing solutions and purchasing supplies
· Experience with protein assays including co-immunoprecipitation, electromobility shift assays.
· Experience with high throughput experiments including RNA sequencing.
· Experience with gene reporter assays
· Experience with minigene assays
