University of Iowa Health Care, Department of & Visual Sciences is seeking a 100% Revenue Cycle Representative (PVC1; 2B). Under the general supervision of the Clinic Manager and in collaboration with the Senior Compliance Coordinator, the Revenue Cycle Representative – Ophthalmology Cosmetic/Self Pay position provides clinic operational support to assure effective and efficient delivery of health care for the Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences. This position is responsible for partnering with the care team to oversee accounts for ophthalmology cosmetic/self-pay patients.  The duties would include ensuring that charges are correct, payments have been collected and distributed appropriately, errors have been resolved, creating reports, and improving cosmetic/self-pay processes.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage applicable workques encompassing all money paid for cosmetic/self-pay items/services up to and including workques which hold all charges posted on an Ophthalmology Cosmetic Guarantor.  This would entail verifying correct charges have posted, distributing money, taking adjustments, and arranging refunds if need be.
  • Manage workques for all ophthalmology testing charges marked as part of a cosmetic/self-pay package.  This would include creating Cosmetic Guarantors & HARs, resolving edits, and taking appropriate adjustments.
  • Partner with and serve as a liaison between prior authorization, oculoplastics, refractive, comprehensive staff, contact lens, patient billing, and centralized coding staff regarding patient procedures that are deemed cosmetic, revisions, or self-pay.
  • Participate in discussions with ophthalmology personnel as well as other UIHC departments, Patient Financial Services, and HCIS to streamline cosmetic/self-pay items and services for the department.
  • Create, organize and manage a central information repository for all items related to cosmetic/self-pay items and services including, but not limited to, ABNs, workflows of processes, and a list of all items and services that would qualify as cosmetic/self-pay.
  • Submit requests to the finance department for payment services or package rates for cosmetic/self-pay services.
  • Generate quarterly reports of cosmetic/self-pay services billed and money collected.
  • Recognize system and institutional barriers to success and propose/implement solutions to address issues.
  • Gain competency in the prior authorization process in order to assist in securing urgent authorizations where applicable.
  • Counsel patients about financial agreements, Advance Beneficiary Notices, and cosmetic service charges
  • Provide financial quotes to patients based on established prices guides.
  • Take cash payments from cosmetic/self-pay patients.  Create payment forms which are scanned into EPIC for the UI Health Care Business Office.
  • Provide follow up on billing errors and partner with internal and external collaborators to resolve.

Percent of Time: 100%

Schedule: Preferred schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00a-5:00p. Schedule may be modified to fit candidate and clinic needs.

Location: UIHC, Iowa City

On Campus: This position is performed fully on campus.

Pay Level: 2B

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 1 year experience of working in a healthcare setting with general knowledge of charges, payments, etc.
  • 6 months – 1 year experience with EPIC
  • 6 months – 1 year experience in customer service
  • Ability to maintain professionalism while handling difficult situations with callers and customers
  • Ability to proactively initiate and follow-through on assigned tasks with little to minimal to no prompting.
  • Ability to anticipate needs, problems and potential issues and use judgment, foresight and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot, recommend and implement solutions.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative, responsive team member with strength in follow through and accurate task completion.
  • Demonstrated careful attention to detail and accuracy, strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks quickly and effectively, proactively establish priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required including ability to compose communications and grammatically correct documents in a concise, logical and organized manner
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including job related experience with and/or commitment to customer service excellence and patient centered service/advocacy.
  • Proficient in computer software applications (Microsoft Office Programs)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Previous experience in healthcare revenue cycle experience, third party payer, and/or insurance authorization.
  • Previous experience working in ophthalmology, higher education, or business setting.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
