Required Qualifications:

• A Master’s degree in a core liberal arts and sciences discipline or higher education student services administration, or a combination of education and experience.
• Experience in academic advising, counseling, college or high school student services offices or teaching at the undergraduate level (typically a minimum of 1-3 years). Typically 3 or more years of experience working directly with undergraduate students as an academic advisor advising for major and university graduation requirements or in a related student services position for 3 years in which the primary responsibility in the position consists of one-on-one meetings with students concerning their educational experience. Experience managing an advising or related student services caseload of 150 or more students for a minimum of 2 semesters.
• Demonstrated ability to create, participate in, and/or implement programming for student success and retention.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion issues and demonstrated participation in events, readings, trainings, workshops, conferences, or courses that focus on improving or increasing diversity, equity and inclusion within the campus community or in the general community.
• Demonstrated proficiency with oral and written communication in an educational setting, especially in discussing sensitive situations that may include negotiation, empathy and diplomacy.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and social media and Excel.
• Extensive interpersonal skills, including the ability to perform a wide variety of tasks and meet deadlines while maintaining a professional demeanor.
• Extensive experience maintaining confidentiality, especially regarding student records.





Desired Qualifications:

• A master’s degree in a liberal arts and sciences discipline or in higher education student services administration is preferred.
• Undergraduate or master’s degree in Health and Human Physiology or a related science major is preferred for the position in Health and Human Physiology.
• Experience working as a full-time professional academic advisor for undergraduate students at a public or private college/university for a minimum of 1 year.
• Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures are desirable.

• Familiarity with undergraduate academic policies and practices.
• Experience teaching in a liberal arts and sciences core discipline, career course or college transition course.
• Active participation and engagement in activities, groups, courses, or organizations that include a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion.
• Demonstrated leadership and/or participation in retention and student success activities.
