About The Office of Student Affairs and Curriculum:
The Office of Student Affairs and Curriculum (OSAC) is the group of 35 professionals that most directly facilitates the activities of medical students at the Carver College of Medicine. The mission is to provide an environment of scholarship and humanism in which our students can become the well-rounded physicians of tomorrow, fully prepared to enter into their professional lives focused on the well-being of their patients and communities. OSAC consists of 10 units, each focused on an aspect of student life. Among our duties are the selection of students that will thrive in this academic environment; to facilitate the delivery of a medical curriculum that provides the best didactic and practical learning experiences possible; to provide opportunities for students to experience the world through research, service, travel, and the humanities; and to support students throughout the learning process.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
A master’s or doctoral degree or equivalent education and experience in counseling psychology, counseling, counselor education, or related field is required. A Ph.D. degree in counseling psychology or a closely related field is desirable. The successful candidate must be licensed or license eligible in the state of Iowa as a psychologist, mental health counselor, or mental health professional in a closely related field. Possession of a valid State of Iowa mental health provider license is required at time of hire. License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment, in addition to the Master’s degree.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Reasonable, independent experience (minimum 1 years) working as a psychologist, professional counselor or mental health professional in a closely related field.
Demonstrated skill at building and maintaining helping relationships – counseling, consultation, crisis intervention, and/or supervision.
Demonstrated skill at building and maintaining collaborative, collegial relationships – teamwork and leadership.
Expertise in assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning; and the capacity to implement therapeutic interventions.
Evidence of a commitment to diversity and competence in working with a range of people from diverse groups.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience serving a college/graduate student population, or healthcare professionals – providing counseling, academic advising, career guidance and/or outreach programs.
Experience developing outreach or psycho-educational programming.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are desirable.
Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in public speaking within a university setting is desirable.

This position is eligible to participate in remote work after an orientation/onboarding period. Remote work must be performed at a location within the state of Iowa. Successful candidates who participate in remote work must comply with requirements of the remote work program and related policies. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process. Limited to one day per week (dependent on supervisor approval and work responsibilities).
