University of Iowa Health Care's Finance and Accounting Services is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to perform a broad range of accounting and financial analysis responsibilities to ensure effective and compliant organizational/department/unit operations.  This includes financial reporting, analysis and planning, operational oversight, training and leadership, and compliance with policies, regulations, and laws.  The main areas of focus for this position are Capital Budgeting, Asset Capitalization & Depreciation, Asset Inventory Management, and Analysis & Reporting.

Hybrid within Iowa: Following an onsite training period, this position is eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work. Remote work must be performed within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location

 

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Capital Budgeting

  • Independently maintain budgeting tools to track capital spending and use of funding sources.
  • Coordinate with departments in the completion of capital requests for equipment/software purchases and construction/renovation projects.
  • Interpret, analyze, and report on project expense data

 

Asset Capitalization & Depreciation

  • Monitor capital purchasing transactions for compliance with the UIHC’s Asset Capitalization Policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Prepare accounting entries for CIP capitalization.

 

Asset Inventory Management

  • Manage accurate asset inventory reporting with departments; coordinate with the University CAM office on additions, transfers, trades, and deductions.
  • Coordinate on-site asset viewing for the State Auditor’s office.

Analysis & Reporting

  • Interpret, analyze, and report on UIHC depreciation and amortization expenses
  • Assist in the coordination with the Capital Accounting Manager to interpret GASB and/or internal policies and provide guidance on accounting transactions affecting property, plant, and equipment
  • Assist in the coordination with multiple units across campus to prepare supporting documentation for property, plant, and equipment balances

 

Other accounting and financial analysis tasks and projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance or an equivalent amount of education and experience
  • 3 -5 years of related accounting, auditing, and/or financial analysis experience
  • Reasonable knowledge of accounting practices
  • Must be proficient in complex statistical and financial analysis and presentation. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of MS Excel spreadsheets and MS Access.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and proven ability to gather and analyze data and keep accurate records

 

Desired qualifications

  • Relevant healthcare accounting experience preference with a background in a healthcare finance setting
  • Proactive and driven to take on extra responsibilities, tasks, and projects
  • Demonstrated competency in complex financial analysis and presentation
  • Demonstrated experience in financial reporting to management/leadership
  • Knowledge of the StrataJazz Budgeting tool
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa People Soft purchasing system
