The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Security is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to be responsible for assigned financial activities for the Department of Safety and Security, which include assisting in budget preparation, financial reporting, financial planning, accounting duties, and statistical analysis.

The department intends to hire either the Financial Analyst classification (Req 25001486) or Senior Financial Analyst (Req 25001634), based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please apply to one or both to be considered. 

Additional Duties: 

  • Conduct analysis of financial information to assist with budget preparation.
  • Assist with the preparation of accounting reports and other financial information for other units.
  • Complete basic and complex recurring reconciliations and reporting following pre-established processes.
  • Gather information for submittal and respond to benchmark surveys or questionnaires required by the University, government, or other agencies.
  • Collaborate with hospital departments to enhance the delivery of administrative services.
  • May provide training and functional and/or administrative supervision for staff.
  • Perform both basic and limited analysis following pre-established processes and some complex and nonroutine financial and statistical analyses.
  • Use moderate knowledge of financial systems.  Assist in the development of financial proformas for financial planning.
  • Transaction processing is minimal but may result from analytical work.
  • May contribute to implementation of policies and procedures. May perform external reporting requiring compliance with reporting standards.

Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Health Information Management or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 3 years of experience and demonstrated ability using databases, queries, Excel, and reporting tools for report generation and analysis.
  • Experience gathering information from multiple data sources, understanding the context, and demonstrating detailed analytical skills with the ability to turn raw data into actionable information.
  • Experience identifying opportunities for financial reporting and operational improvement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications.

Desirable Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience working with database analytics in Excel and/or Tableau
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of University accounting policy, procedure, and systems
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting tools including: Peoplesoft, StrataJazz, GL Reporter, and Iowa Electronic Financial Reports (EFR)
