Senior Voice Support Specialist
The University of Iowa Health Care Information Systems has a great opportunity to join our team as a Network Engineer. In this role you will, participate in the design, implementation, monitoring and ongoing support of UI Health Care enterprise wireless and wired network and voice services. This position will provide a variety of technical services to include technical project management, network and voice technology consulting, and documentation.
Occasional travel, nights, weekends, although limited, might be required.
Position Responsibilities:
- Assist in collecting and analyzing customer requirements for the design of new communication systems.
- Work in concert with team leads, project staff, assistant director and director, to plan and manage the design, development, deployment and support of enterprise communications equipment and services of moderate complexity.
- Assists in the operational activities necessary to maintain the integrity of our communication services including, but not limited to, preventative maintenance, fault analysis, security audits, reliability inspection, and performance & health monitoring.
- Assists in operating and maintaining systems hardware and software platforms required to support communication technologies and services functions.
- Assists in troubleshooting problems of moderate complexity and identify the actions necessary for correction. Perform appropriate remediation activities. Log problems, work with vendors if required, and advise users of outages and subsequent restoration.
- Plan and coordinate local and remote service outages and subsequent restoration with telecommunication providers, Infrastructure, network, and end user community as required.
- Assist in developing detailed documentation for all communication systems related to installation procedures, service operations, performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, customer support, troubleshooting and repair. Ensure that all documented procedures are kept accurate and current.
- Provide detailed tracking, usage information and statistics.
- Assist IT groups on campus and teams within Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) to understand the behavior of specific applications, collecting & defining service requirements, and participate as needed on project teams.
- Participates in meetings representing the Voice Engineering Services team.
- Prepare written and/or oral recommendations for management staff.
- Provide input on the creation of standards for communications infrastructure and team procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned in support of overall Health Care Information Systems (HCIS) activities.

Education Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience Requirements:
- Experience, typically 1 -3 years, with IP call control systems such as, but not limited to: Avaya, Cisco Call Manager or Skype for Business.
- Experience, typically 1-3 years, with experience in design, implementation, and supporting of medium to large enterprise VoIP infrastructure.
- Experience, typically 1-3 years, with network voice infrastructure such as, but not limited to: session border controllers, voice gateways and SIP trunking.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to participate in a 24x7x365 on call rotation
- Must meet the University of Iowa Fleet Services program rules and regulations, due to the ability to drive University vehicles.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience designing, implementing, and administering Quality of Service (QoS)
- Experience with NEC PBX
- Experience with Automatic Call Distributor (ACD)
- Experience with Intrado Emergency Gateway (EGW)
- Experience with Ribbon SBC, PSX and EMS
