Staff Nurse - Adult Psychiatry Unit (7RC) 50-100%

University of Iowa Health Care opened a new psychiatric unit in 2021. This state-of-the-art unit design features private rooms, natural light-filled spaces, open nurses’ station, and exercise rooms. Innovative technology has been integrated into this space to promote a safe environment for staff members and patients.
7RCP is separated into a 12-bed mood disorder unit and a 13-bed general adult psychiatry unit. We utilize an evidence-based, patient-centered, interdisciplinary approach, with contributions from physicians, psychologists, advanced practice providers, master-level therapists, nurses, social workers, dieticians, occupational and recreational therapists, all striving to work collaboratively with patients and families to provide the best possible care. 7RCP features a new and collaborative position, Behavioral Health Consultant, with a goal to elevate the patient and team outcomes. Evidence-based therapeutic modalities utilized on the unit include dialectical behavior therapy, cognitive behavior therapy, and trauma-informed care.
Percent of Time: 50-100%
Schedule: 20-40 hours per week, shifts vary and negotiable
Location: Roy Carver Pavilion (University Campus)
Rotations: Every other weekend and rotating holidays
Salary: $30,000 (at 50% effort) to commensurate (not including inpatient or shift differential)

Pay Differentials: Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts greater than 4 hours. Inpatient differential of $5,000 per year

Education Required:
- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
Experience Requirements:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions
- General computer skills are required
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
Desirable Qualifications:
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired
- If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable
- Knowledge of university and hospital policies and procedures is desired
