Statistician/Biostat Manager
The Department of Biostatistics Clinical Trials Statistical Data Management Center is recruiting a candidate to, under the direction of Center leadership, lead analyses and supervise a small team of biostatisticians engaged in multi-center clinical research. Together, the Biostatistics team is responsible for the development of all statistical analysis plans, randomization schemes, statistical reports and analyses, as well as overseeing all data sharing activities and providing statistical support for publications. This team works closely with all teams in the Center to design data collection forms using data standards and to produce FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable) datasets. This position is part of a team that is actively engaged in all aspects of ongoing clinical trial operations at the Center and may be responsible for managing more than one project at a time and working with multiple clinicians with varying goals, backgrounds, and specialties.
Consultation:
Advise investigators on the design of studies, including statistical and operational aspects.
Prepare statistical analysis sections for complex studies.
Communicate key statistical findings to team leaders, center leadership, and investigators.
Write reports of statistical analyses and prepare tables, figures, listings, and written materials for funding agencies, regulatory agencies, and others.
Statistical Analysis:
Prepare and review data for validity and accuracy, and recommends additional tests and complex modifications to the analysis.
Create, test, and validate complex programs that generate data analyses and data summaries using statistical packages or programming languages.
Develop statistical analysis plans.
Assist investigators in the design and implementation of complex statistical analysis.
Develop, review, and/or implement plans for organizing, documenting, and archiving statistical analysis programs, data sets, and results.
Prepare data sets for public use and reporting to appropriate funding agencies following all guidelines.
Apply new methods and trends in data analysis techniques to data sets.
Apply innovative applications of existing methodologies to data sets.
Analyze and report on methods and trends in data analysis techniques and apply them to data sets with minimal oversight.
Presentation/Publication:
Prepare the statistical analysis sections for research presentations and publications.
May assist in the preparation of grant applications.
Lead presentations at conferences.
Human Resources/Leadership:
Provide functional and administrative supervision to a small number of other statisticians including giving direction, assignments, feedback, coaching, and counseling to assure outcomes are achieved
Assist with long-term strategic planning in collaboration with Center leadership.
Play a key role in training new staff.
Assist in hiring staff.
Required Qualification:
Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, or related field with a minimum of 5 years work experience in clinical trials research, including experience and/or knowledge of different phases of clinical trials and study designs. In some cases, an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible work experience will be considered sufficient to meet the requirements of the role.
Advanced SAS experience in a professional setting (minimum of 5 years of experience). Extensive experience using SAS to navigate relational databases, using macros in statistical software (e.g., SAS or R), and developing complex programs that generate reports, tables, and listings.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills as evidenced by the ability to lead multiple projects and/or work with a large collaborative staff, and ability to manage multiple deadlines for a team.
Experience independently writing statistical analysis plans, analysis reports, protocols, or methods sections.
Professional experience with statistical design and analyses, including but not limited to: sample size and power calculations, use of missing data techniques, and generation of randomization tables
Ability to foster a respectful work environment for a variety of people
Highly Desirable Qualification
Experience leading staff as shown through successful training, management, or evaluating performance of other statisticians.
Experience with R programming, including knowledge of data import procedures, data management, and use of complex analysis packages.
Experience with advanced modeling using actual research data.
Experience with CDISC data standards.
Desirable Qualification:
Experience designing clinical studies.
Experience with modern data analysis techniques, such as machine learning and/or causal inference analysis methods.
Experience with data visualization software, such as Power BI, Tableau, or R Shiny.
Experience developing and reviewing standard operating procedures.
Position and Application Details:
This position is eligible for on campus, hybrid work within Iowa, and Remote within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
