Student Engagement Coordinator, Honors Program
To be successful in this role YOU BRING:
Required
- A Bachelor’s degree in higher education, student development, student affairs, counseling, other related fields or an equivalent combination of education and related experience or expertise.
- Reasonable (1 – 3 years) experience working in higher education within a student success, retention, or support capacity. This can also include internships, practicums, and capstones, etc.
- Familiarity with collegiate academic and administrative procedures (e.g. admissions, registration, financial aid, academic advising, orientation, etc.).
- Demonstrates a working proficiency level in:
- Commitment to and participation in diversity, equity, and inclusion practices and initiatives.
- Collaboration and positive impact with coworkers, partners, and/or students including working with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner and open sharing of information.
- Ability to work developmentally with students; ability to promote student learning, development, and success by applying advising approaches to diverse individual student situations.
- Organization skills to include the ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of resources, to achieve objectives.
- Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors, preferably to student audience and addressing program requirements.
Desired
- A Master’s degree in higher education, student development, student affairs, counseling, or a related field is highly desired.
- Reasonable (1 – 3 years) experience with student retention approaches, principles, and theories that strengthen student engagement.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of and the ability to provide new incoming students with a welcoming environment and to help familiarize them with program facilities, policies, services, and expectations for student success and retention.
- Demonstrates working knowledge of the operation and application of computer-based academic support systems; ability to coordinate and support academic activities through an academic support system (such as ICON, Blackboard, etc.).
- Demonstrates a working knowledge and awareness of and insight into the organization's vision, structure, culture, philosophy, operating principles, values, and code of ethics; ability to apply this understanding appropriately to diverse situations.

- In support of the University of Iowa residential-campus experience, mission, and values, and due to the nature of this position within the University, this position is anticipated to work fully on-site on a regular basis.
