Support Services Specialist - Safety and Security
The University of Iowa Health Care department of Safety and Security is seeking a Security Supervisor. Their responsibility will be to provide leadership in the coordination and administration of the security staff within UI Health Care Network. This will be accomplished by planning, organizing, directing, supporting, and evaluating all security staff within UI Health Care. This position will directly supervise the Hospital Security Officer Merit Supervisors, Hospital Security Officers, Hospital Security Officer Trainee’s, and Security Clerks for their designated shift. This position will collaborate with dispatch, fire safety, nursing services, UIPD, and all other key stakeholders to enhance safety and security within UI Health Care. They will monitor existing reporting tools to evaluate staff performance, scheduling, security, and safety. This Supervisor will support the Manager to ensure their security staff maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff within the buildings and on the grounds of UI Health Care.
- Oversee all security operations to maintain a safe and secure environment.
- Manage, coordinate, and schedule the Safety and Security team.
- Develop, train, manage the performance, and provide support for all security staff.
- Participate in hiring process for new candidates.
- Clearly communicate expectations and provide direction for your shift.
- Communicate with departmental leadership regarding daily operations.
- Communicate with HR Representative to effectively manage performance, staffing, and compliance related tasks.
- Approve payroll, time off requests, overtime, and other forms of leave.
- Provide safety and security services for the hospital by patrolling the medical complex on foot, and via video surveillance.
- Respond to and assist in all escalated incidents regarding safety and security.
- Respond to and resolve all escalated emergencies.
- Conduct investigations and write investigative reports.
- Act as a liaison between staff, patients and visitors and University Police Officers when the need arises for filing of police report.
- Assist University Police in criminal investigations, collection of evidence, and victim or witness statements.
- Meet with representatives from hospital departments to discuss safety and security needs.
- Work with various contractors to provide guidance on hospital policy as it pertains to safety and security.
- Assist in overseeing security across multiple sites.
- Collaborate with many departments at UI Health Care and other agencies to maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students, all departments, and outside agencies.
- Support the work and strategic goals of Safety and Security.
- Ensure that security staff for your respective shift are compliant with UI policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required
- 1-2 years administrative experience
- Experience directly supervising employees
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in computer software applications
- Commitment to customer and employee safety
- Ability to facilitate positive outcomes by collaborating and working in a team environment, establishing and meeting/exceeding department objectives and deadlines
- Ability to be self-directed and demonstrate excellent judgement in prioritizing multiple projects and assignments
Desired Qualifications:
- 1-2 years of security/law enforcement experience
- Leadership experience in a healthcare setting
- Experience in C-Cure, Perspective, and Victor
- Trained in Crisis Intervention Techniques (CIT) procedures
- CPR Certified
- CPI Certified
- IAHSS Certified
- Stop the Bleed Training Certified
- Knowledge of UI Health Care policies, procedures, and regulations
- Knowledge of Safety and Security policies, procedures, and regulations
