UI Health Care is looking for its next Web Content Creative Media Specialist to support how web content is structured, presented, and engaged with across UI Health Care’s core websites: UIHEALTHCARE.ORG, UIHC.ORG, UICHILDRENS.ORG, and MEDICINE.UIOWA.EDU. This role requires a strategic and analytical mindset, a deep understanding of user experience (UX) and digital engagement, and a passion for creating compelling, interactive web content.
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.
Position Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with Marketing & Communication staff to align and repurpose written content effectively to serve diverse web audiences, ensuring maximum engagement and accessibility.
- Develop and execute a strategic content update plan in coordination with internal stakeholders to ensure information remains accurate, relevant, and reflective of UI Health Care’s mission and values.
- Write, edit, curate, and repurpose content for the web, leveraging best practices in web distribution, digital storytelling, and audience engagement.
- Utilize web analytics to assess content effectiveness, track key performance indicators (KPIs), and provide actionable recommendations to enhance content strategy, improve SEO, and increase audience reach.
- Act as a subject matter expert on site architecture, user flow, and information hierarchy, advising internal teams on best practices for organizing and presenting content effectively within a CMS-driven environment.
- Stay on top of industry trends, emerging digital platforms, and audience acquisition techniques, including advanced SEO strategies, AI, and content distribution innovations.
- Assist in managing and responding to web edit requests, collaborating with distributed content authors across UI Health Care, and ensuring consistency and adherence to UI Health Care’s web standards.
- Support usability studies and ensure compliance with web accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG 2.1), advocating for inclusive and user-friendly digital experiences.
- Work closely with the web development team to establish and maintain a comprehensive web governance structure and our strategic communications division on digital style guide, to ensure brand consistency and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to ongoing web training initiatives, empowering distributed content authors with the tools and knowledge needed to maintain high-quality content.
- Lead or contribute to special digital projects that enhance UI Health Care’s online presence and further institutional goals.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media, journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of experience in digital communications, web content strategy, or online media, preferably in a fast-paced, content-driven environment.
- Demonstrated ability to create, manage, and optimize web content with a strong understanding of UX principles, audience engagement strategies, and content performance metrics.
- Strong proficiency in AP Style, with exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Hands-on experience with web content management systems (CMS), particularly Drupal., WordPress, or other leading platforms.
- Basic to intermediate knowledge of HTML and CSS, with the ability to troubleshoot minor formatting or display issues.
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally, working with designers, developers, and marketing professionals to create effective digital experiences.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
Desired
- Experience editing and managing content within Drupal 10 CMS.
- Advanced knowledge of web analytics and site health tools such as Piwik Pro, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, SiteImprove, and Looker Studio.
- Prior experience in health care, higher education, or other complex, regulated industries.
- Experience applying SEO best practices, using platforms such as SEMRush, MozPro, including keyword research, metadata optimization, and content structuring for improved search visibility.
- Familiarity with digital accessibility best practices (ADA/WCAG 2.1 compliance) and tools for assessing website accessibility.
- Experience conducting A/B testing, personalization, and audience segmentation to enhance content effectiveness.
