Director of Finance and Budget Operations
The College of Education is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Finance and Budget Operations to plan, direct, and oversee the fiscal operations for the College of Education. This role involves performing a broad range of financial projections, budgeting, accounting, and financial planning and analysis responsibilities to ensure effective and compliant college operations. The Director will provide strategic guidance to the Dean on the financial impacts of decisions and oversee the reporting and reconciling of current financial transactions. Additionally, the Director will analyze past and present financial data to recommend future fiscal actions to ensure sustainability.
This position requires regular use of independent judgement, high level of discretion, and business acumen while frequently interfacing with college leadership.
Location: On campus or hybrid work arrangement within the State of Iowa may be considered.
Hybrid within Iowa: This position may be eligible for a combination of on-campus and remote work within Iowa. Work arrangement options will be discussed during the hiring process. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial data from all areas of the college to evaluate overall performance.
- Create, analyze, interpret, and forecast financial, cost, budget and statistical data and make strategic recommendations to the Dean and collegiate leadership.
- Oversee budget preparation and budgeting process for the units within the college.
- Coordinate the preparation of a comprehensive salary and operating budget for the college.
- Analyze financial information and provide accurate financial reports. Present to college leadership and other campus units as needed to communicate current and projected financial status.
- Project annual revenues and provide updated projections to central budget office throughout the year.
- Analyze financial projections and risk to the college.
- Participate with collegiate leadership in strategic planning and policy decisions.
- Develop financial policies and practices that support collegiate strategic priorities.
- Ensure proper application of federal and state regulations in accounting practices.
- Hire, train, assign, and evaluate work of staff.

Education Requirement:
- Master’s degree in business administration or related area or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Comprehensive (typically 7-10 years) relevant experience including accounting, budgeting, financial analysis and reporting.
- Experience managing complex financial information requiring strong attention to detail.
- Ability to form and manage effective teams.
- Professional experience in fostering or promoting a welcoming and respectful working environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed.
Desired Qualifications:
- Relevant experience managing multiple funding sources (i.e. state, research, foundation).
- Knowledge of University of Iowa financial accounting systems, internal controls, policies, and procedures.
