Accountant
The University of Iowa Research Foundation (UIRF) seeks an Accountant. The Accountant is under general supervision, provides administrative support to the UIRF accounting activities. Work performed will include recurring contact with UIRF License Agreement Manager, Office of VP Research Budget Office staff, UI Shared Services rep, outside vendors, and UIRF leadership. Contacts require discretion in obtaining and providing factual and confidential information, knowledge of both the assigned and related work areas, and institutional operations.
Initial training will be in person with staff.
Work Modality: In-Person or Hybrid within Iowa
Position Status: Professional and Scientific Regular (100%)
This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Research and scholarship from faculty and staff at the University of Iowa (UI) often lead to the discovery of innovations that can improve the quality of life for people in the state, the nation, and worldwide. The University of Iowa Research Foundation (UIRF) works to obtain intellectual property protection—like patents and copyrights—on these innovations and partners with industry for the commercial development of new products and services.
UIRF is part of the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) and works to deliver UI innovations out into the world by:
· Building relationships with researchers through IP protection and jumpstarting commercialization;
· Working collaboratively with industry through IP licensing or other partnerships; and
· Supporting new ventures in collaboration with UI Ventures.
Qualifications:
Education or Equivalency Required
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration of Accounting or related field or an equivalent combination of education & experience.
Required Qualifications
· Basic level of accrual basis accounting experience.
· Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and relationship management skills, and ability to interact positively with all.
· Ability to perform tasks that require accuracy, attention to detail, including accurate record keeping.
· Demonstrate high Proficiency with Microsoft Office computer software applications, including Excel, Word and Outlook.
Desirable Qualifications
· Experience with QuickBooks Online.
· Ability to work independently.
· Ability to exercise judgment with confidential matters.
· 1-3 years of experience using University of Iowa policies, procedures and regulations.
· Knowledge of patent prosecution, royalty distribution calculations, or experience with the technology transfer process.
· Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles and the ability to apply them appropriately within the organization.
