Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

Experience Requirements

  • 1 year of relevant professional experience
  • Proficiency with at least one modern (object-oriented) programming language (preferably PHP)
  • Proficiency with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and SQL (preferably MySQL)
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Strong development and problem-solving skills
  • Exceptional ability to communicate highly technical concepts to any audience.
  • Experience with all aspects of the lifecycle of a web application: wireframing, design, frontend, and backend.
  • Understanding of web standards, web accessibility best practices
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as git/mercurial/svn (we use git)

Desirable Qualifications

  • An advanced degree in a related field
  • Strong design aesthetic and good understanding of best practices in digital typography and layout
  • Experience working with Drupal (preferably versions 7,  8,  and 9)
  • Experience working with WordPress.
  • Experience with CSS pre-processors (preferably SASS)
  • Experience with C# and .NET.
  • Experience with usability testing.
  • Good understanding of SEO principles
  • Knowledge of web analytics tools (ex. Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Site Search, etc.)
  • Familiarity with web accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 and WAI-ARIA
  • Basic knowledge of Linux administration
  • Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
