Application Developer
Education Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience Requirements
- 1 year of relevant professional experience
- Proficiency with at least one modern (object-oriented) programming language (preferably PHP)
- Proficiency with HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, JQuery, and SQL (preferably MySQL)
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Strong development and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional ability to communicate highly technical concepts to any audience.
- Experience with all aspects of the lifecycle of a web application: wireframing, design, frontend, and backend.
- Understanding of web standards, web accessibility best practices
- Proficient understanding of code versioning tools, such as git/mercurial/svn (we use git)
Desirable Qualifications
- An advanced degree in a related field
- Strong design aesthetic and good understanding of best practices in digital typography and layout
- Experience working with Drupal (preferably versions 7, 8, and 9)
- Experience working with WordPress.
- Experience with CSS pre-processors (preferably SASS)
- Experience with C# and .NET.
- Experience with usability testing.
- Good understanding of SEO principles
- Knowledge of web analytics tools (ex. Google Analytics, Webmaster Tools, Site Search, etc.)
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1 and WAI-ARIA
- Basic knowledge of Linux administration
- Knowledge of University of Iowa policies and procedures
