Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Sport Programs serves as a valued member of the Recreational Services team, working primarily to advance student engagement opportunities through sport for the University of Iowa campus. Sport Programs consists of three main areas including intramurals, sport clubs, and youth camps; serving over 6,000 unique participants annually.

Responsibilities will include personnel management, risk management, program leadership and oversight, and revenue generation. The Assistant Director is responsible for budget development, policy creation and enforcement, and the development and delivery of participant educational trainings with an emphasis on student development and interpersonal growth.

Education:

  • A master's degree in related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Collegiate Recreation Experience (typically a minimum of 3 years).
  •  Working experience (typically 1 - 3 years) supervising, managing, and mentoring student staff.
  •  Current CPR, AED and First-Aid (or ability to obtain within six months of hire).
  •  Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining a welcoming and respectful environment.
  •  Work requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
  •  Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in utilizing standard office computer software applications.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, or Youth Programs.
  • Knowledge of assessment methods and activities; ability to assess research and review students' learning outcomes to ensure achievement of objectives and strategies.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Budget development and management experience.
