Clin Trials Rsrch Specialist - ICTS - Coordinator Core
The Clinical/ Health Care Research Specialist in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science will be an integral member of the research team in the Department of Emergency Medicine. This position will provide support for Emergency Medicine Research by performing activities which are vitally important to establish the research core for the department, as well as to grow and foster innovation through research support endeavors. Apply clinical research skills required to administer, deliver, and evaluate research protocols. The position requires the academic knowledge of the emergency medicine.
Duties to include but not limited to:
- Coordinate the screening of patients for study eligibility and consent for clinical trials.
- Educate patient on scope of study, potential risks and benefits, possible alternatives, and study requirements for patient.
- Design, develop, manage, and maintain protocols and clinical studies, provide input into descriptions of complex research procedures.
- Communicate any patient problems related to protocol to the healthcare practitioner.
- Function as the specialized research expert in the Emergency Department to perform clinical and data coordination functions associated with subject recruitment, enrollment, and data collection.
- Coordinate the care of research participants according to protocols requiring a high level of judgement.
- Oversee the design; development and testing of clinical research trial data systems.
- Evaluate, analyze, and improve data collection procedures.
- Manage safety of the subjects.
- Prepare regulatory submissions.
- Hire new staff ED research interns and provide functional and administrative supervision.
- Develop training and educational materials for new research staff.
- Develop and administer study budgets.
- Participate in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding.

About ICTS: The Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) at the University of Iowa was approved by the Iowa Board of Regents in 2007 to support the work of investigators involved in clinical and translational science. Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of three years related database management experience including entering, tracking and maintaining data and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) in research.
- A minimum of 3 years of clinical research experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work nights and weekends.
- General computer skills.
- Recent experience coordinating clinical trials.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
- Experience processing biological samples including blood, urine, and sputum.
- IATA certified, experience shipping biological samples and specimens.
- Experience in processing research regulatory documents and budget preparation.
- Current or past supervisory experience.
- Current or past experience working in an emergency or critical care setting.
- The ability to work independently.
- Experience writing manuscripts and grants.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to perform detail-oriented work.
