Information Technology Services at the University of Iowa is seeking a Data Center Systems Analyst to provide physical, hands-on server administration and support for hosted systems in the University’s enterprise datacenters.

This position includes:

  • Learning and then independently performing the tasks necessary to provision, document, support, and decommission hosted systems at UI datacenters.
  • Provisioning systems in UI datacenters includes administration of network connections and helping provision services managed by other core datacenter service providers.
  • Supporting and performing maintenance of secure server (KVM, Serial, and Power Control) remote access software and infrastructure as a core responsibility.

This position provides an opportunity to learn how to readily identify core problems and apply problem-solving skills to resolve those problems, often under time constraints.  Technical guidance and on-the-job training will be provided from higher-level staff. This role will be expected to have regular contact with users involving service delivery, reviewing needs, and assisting with planning for system deployment or modifications.  This role is also responsible for the reliability and availability of multiple systems and services and may administer a small site alone or assist in the administration of a large system. Errors could jeopardize the assigned project(s) and may have significant financial exposure across the enterprise.

The person in this position will be required to frequently move and put into place technical equipment weighing up to 50 pounds (assistive tools are available). This role also requires both the ability to remain in a stationary position and the ability move about the data center environment to access necessary equipment.

This position has a project assignment of one year from the date of hire and is classified as a "specified term appointment" as a Systems Analyst (PIF1) with full fringe benefits.

U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or protected person status is required for this position.
