Position Summary:

The Clinical Research Data Analyst will provide data management and data analysis for the Department of Otolaryngology/Cochlear Implant and Age-Related Hearing Loss Research Teams. This position will work with researchers to design and implement database functionality, help articulate their data needs, define data request requirements, and fulfill data requests. The position will work with a wide variety of healthcare data. The position functions as a data engineer for Department of Otolaryngology/Cochlear Implant and Age-Related Hearing Loss Research Teams for meeting various research data / reporting requirements.

Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks:

Data Analysis, Migration and Management:

  • Utilize database languages to create queries to extract data from the Department of Otolaryngology/Cochlear Implant and Age-Related Hearing Loss Research Teams to fulfil data requests from researchers. 
  • Manage data cleansing, conversions, and validation. Conduct data integrity audits.
  • Develop quality control procedures for database
  • Monitor workflow processes; may gather requirements or recommend improvements to processes.

Database Development/Reporting: 

  • Create/maintain database functionality based upon data type, experiment designs, and research needs.

  • Maintain documentation and respond to database requests.

  • Create data reports and dashboards

  • Troubleshooting database issues

  • Evaluate data quality and suggest approaches for data cleansing and ensuring data completeness and correction.

  • Maintain data security/research compliance

Design/Modeling:

  • Review database specification. Design, review and write documentation.

Implementation:

  • Provide analysis, implementation and support of programmatic solutions including some application development as needed.

Project Management and Communication:

  • Collaborating with:

    • Principal Investigators (PIs)

    • Research coordinators

    • Biostatisticians

    • IT teams

  • Documenting workflows and database specifications

  • Managing multiple research projects simultaneously

  • Training researchers on database use

Administration/Support:

  • Provide technical or application support to users.

Leadership/Staff Management/Financial Responsibility:

  • Follow established core practices and processes.

  • Contribute ideas. Seek ways to improve assigned processes.

  • Work in a cross-functional team environment and coordinate work/activities.

  • Multi-task on multiple projects for different roles and responsibilities.

  • Act as a database Subject Matter Expert for research teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, health informatics, or data science or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience with database management systems (e.g., SQL, Oracle).
  • Strong programming skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and multiple projects simultaneously.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with healthcare systems (Epic preferably) and the underlying database structures.
  • Experience working with MS Access and other database tools.
  • Experience working with Electronic Data Capture systems (e.g., REDCap).
  • Experience with SQL.
  • Experience with database design, normalization, and optimization.
