Lead Systems and Data Administrator
The Lead Systems and Data Administrator is responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing enterprise applications and data systems that support critical campus operations, including energy, building systems, asset management, and facilities automation. This role leads the design, configuration, and governance of integrated systems spanning applications, databases, and cloud platforms to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance. Key systems include AiM, PI, ESRI, Power BI, the FM Data Lake, and other platforms supporting energy, building operations, and spatial data. The position champions innovation, continuous improvement, and reliability across Facilities Management’s enterprise application and data infrastructure. This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.
Duties to Include:
• Lead the analysis and design of complex enterprise IT configurations supporting Facilities Management applications, databases, and automation systems.
• Oversee installation, configuration, and upgrades of enterprise software, databases, and servers to ensure secure and reliable operations.
• Collaborate with FM leadership, IT teams, and vendors to deliver data-driven insights and optimized workflows.
• Serve as a technical expert and strategic leader, guiding teams in the design, implementation, and governance of enterprise IT systems.
Location: Remote within Iowa/University Services Building (USB)
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Professional experience (typically 7 – 10 years) in enterprise IT systems analysis, design, configuration, and implementation.
• Demonstrated expertise in Windows- and Linux-based enterprise environments, including system architecture, installation, and maintenance.
• Proven ability to install, configure, and upgrade applications on enterprise servers.
• Strong background in database management and administration, including SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle, Redshift) and NoSQL databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB).
• Working knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies for analytics and integration.
• Experience designing and managing data pipelines, ETL workflows, and integrations using tools such as SSIS, Informatica, or Talend.
• Ability to develop interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI, Tableau, or SSRS.
• Expertise in troubleshooting, optimization, and automation, including use of monitoring frameworks such as Playwright.
• Experience designing or maintaining mobile and low-code applications (e.g., Microsoft Power Apps).
• Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical problems, evaluate emerging technologies, and deliver enterprise-scale solutions.
• Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a variety of teams and stakeholders.
• Proven ability to work independently, providing customer-focused service in a dynamic IT environment.
• Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Desired Qualifications:
• Leadership experience in planning, coordinating, and managing complex IT projects and teams.
• Experience developing automation scripts in PowerShell and/or Linux shell environments.
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM).
• Experience with configuration management and version control tools such as Puppet and Git.
• Relevant cloud certification (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect).
• Experience managing web servers (IIS, Apache) and database servers (PostgreSQL, MS SQL).
• Strong background in server and application security and compliance best practices.
• Experience supporting enterprise technology in a higher education environment.
• Familiarity with serverless and event-driven architectures (AWS Lambda, Step Functions, SNS, SQS).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, Power Query, and macros.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, UDP, IPv4, IPv6, and common protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, FTP, DNS, SMTP).
