Network Engineer OR Senior Network Engineer - Network Engineering Services
**Information Technology Services intends to hire either a Network Engineer (PIN2) or a Senior Network Engineer (PIN3) based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. **
Network Engineering Services, part of IT Services at the University of Iowa, is seeking either a Network Engineer or a Senior Network Engineer to join their team.
Network Engineer:
The Network Engineer is an integral technical member on the Network Engineering Services team at the University of Iowa. This position will contribute to network architecture, communicate project technology needs, and assist with the implementation and ongoing management of campus-wide communication technologies to ensure the highest possible service quality and integrity. Ideal candidates for this position will be technically curious with a desire to learn, highly customer service-focused, self-motivated, and possess a “can-do” attitude.
Duties Include:
- Participating in partnerships with campus academic and administrative units.
- Working individually as well as in a team environment in a highly collaborative manner, utilizing excellent interpersonal skills.
- Functioning at a strong technical level in all aspects of communication technologies service delivery. This includes, but is not limited to, technical design and technology review, and review of existing communication services.
Senior Network Engineer:
The Senior Network Engineer is a leader, mentor, and an integral senior technical member on the Network Engineering Services team at the University of Iowa. This position will contribute to network architecture, project communication technology needs, and the implementation and ongoing management of campus wide communication technologies to ensure the highest possible service quality and integrity. Ideal candidates for this position will be technically curious with a desire to learn, highly customer service-focused, self-motivated, and possess a “can-do” attitude.
Duties include:
- Representing the team and broader OneIT organization in partnerships with campus academic and administrative units, as well as representing the University of Iowa to other institutions.
- Working both individually as well as in a team environment in a highly collaborative manner utilizing excellent interpersonal skills.
- Functioning at a senior technical level in all aspects of communication technologies service delivery. This includes, but is not limited to, technical design and technology review, review of existing communication services, functioning as the lead network engineer on project(s), as well as leadership and mentoring of junior engineers on the team.
For Both Levels:
This position will require occasional off-hours work and will participate in a team after hours on call rotation.
A valid US driver’s license and ability to meet the University of Iowa’s fleet safety requirements is required.
This position is not eligible for University sponsorship for employment authorization.
This is a 100% onsite position.

Qualifications:
Network Engineer
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience (typically 1 year or more) working with enterprise network systems, including installation, maintenance, and/or ongoing support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster strong working relationships within and outside the organization.
- Ability to work well independently, as well as part of a team.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience working on complex projects and initiatives with cross-functional teams.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with Cisco products and services.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with Aruba wireless access points and controllers.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with Juniper networking hardware.
- Knowledge of and/or experience with network monitoring and alerting systems.
- Demonstrated technical and architectural knowledge related to network systems.
Senior Network Engineer
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience (typically 3 years or more) working with enterprise network systems, including installation, maintenance, and/or ongoing support.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster strong working relationships within and outside the organization.
- Ability to work well independently, as well as part of a team.
- Strong technical troubleshooting skills.

Desirable Qualifications:
- Experience leading complex projects and initiatives with cross-functional teams.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Experience mentoring junior technical staff.
- Experience with Cisco products and services.
- Experience with Aruba wireless access points and controllers.
- Experience with Juniper networking hardware.
- Experience with network monitoring and alerting systems.
- Strong, demonstrated technical and architectural knowledge related to network systems.
