Program Associate, TRIO Upward Bound

Education and Experience Required

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing a comparable level of expertise.
• Some experience (typically 6mo-1yr) supporting education services/student support programming, events, or services for students with disabilities, U.S. ethnic minority, first-generation, LGBTQ, military/veteran, and/or low-income students in an educational setting. Includes maintaining confidential records and information.
• Some experience (typically 6 mo-1 yr) working in office administration. 
   

Competencies Required

• Demonstrates a Basic proficiency level in:
  • The knowledge of and ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
• Demonstrated a Working proficiency level in:
  • The knowledge and the ability to produce documents that are clear and well-presented. Uses various techniques to disseminate and gather information and is able to adapt writing and/or delivery to different audiences.
  • Communication techniques and relationship building skills that enable one to establish and build healthy working relationships and partnerships with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use office support tools available on the desktop (e.g. calendaring, word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets).

Desirable Qualifications

• Working knowledge of university policies, procedures and regulations.
• Previous successful experience in working with an Upward Bound program, or similar program working with high school students.
• Experience with both verbal and written communications with Spanish speaking constituents.
• Possess a valid motor vehicle driver's license and meet the University Fleet Safety Program requirements (University of Iowa Operations Manual Part V, Chapter 19).
• Bi-lingual in English and Spanish
