The THRIVE Lab, led by Professor Emily Thomas in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, is seeking applications for a Research Assistant. The Research Assistant will conduct and manage research with a team of investigators, students, and staff members under the direction of the principal investigator (PI). The individual will provide technical expertise in the planning, development, and execution of research investigating the impact of psychotherapeutic interventions. 

This is a one-year specified-term position with the possibility of extension based on funding and lab needs. This position is fully on-site with the Research Assistant performing work in various psychology buildings at the University as well as at the VA Iowa City Health Care System.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with VA team members and University team members.
  • Maintain data integrity and align with University and VA storage policies.
  • Mentor and manage research assistants in the laboratory.
  • Actively participate in team meetings.
  • Recruit, screen, and enroll participants in accordance with IRB-approved procedures.
  • Collect, enter, manage, and analyze data.
  • Follow research protocols with great attention to detail and under the supervision of Dr. Thomas.

Education Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, neuroscience, or related field.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of two years’ research experience working with human subjects in a laboratory setting.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, typically during the work week, but on weekends or during the evening as necessitated by lab activities.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to perform independent, self-directed work as well as the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with departmental, university, government, and funding agency rules and guidelines.
  • Must have valid driver's license and be able to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Management Driver’s safety requirements.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working with clinical populations.
  • Experience using statistical analysis packages (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, etc.).
  • Experience with participant recruitment in research settings.
  • Experience in acquisition and analyses of behavioral data.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including demonstrated experience with professional communication and conflict management.
  • Experience working with veterans in a clinical or research capacity.
