The University of Iowa College of Nursing is seeking a part-time (50-80%) Research Associate. This role is integral to conducting clinical dementia care research within established study protocols and managing day-to-day activities of grant-funded projects. Key responsibilities include managing research protocols, overseeing data collection and quality assurance, ensuring regulatory compliance, supporting clinical research activities, and collaborating effectively with team members. Experience in healthcare, particularly with UI Healthcare, and proficiency in tools like EPIC and REDCap are highly desirable.  

 

Key Areas of Responsibilities

 

Research 

  • Adapt and perform research protocols, manage administrative functions including project implementation, advise on implementation strategies, and troubleshoot barriers. Ensure research protocols are followed. 

 

 

Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations 

  • Perform basic and complex clinical research activities, including obtaining informed consent, screening, recruiting, and enrolling study participants. Assist with subject assessments and follow-ups, and track participants through various study phases. 

 

 

Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports, Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications 

  • Oversee data collection, entry, and auditing. Manage data collection databases, including REDCap. Design forms for data collection and tracking, perform quality control checks, and prepare data reports. 

 

 

Administrative and Project Management 

  • Monitor compliance with regulatory guidelines, including IRB and funding requirements. Develop and submit IRB applications, maintain IRB status, and ensure protection of confidential data.  Responsible for following guidelines and maintaining required documentation in support of safety programs. 
  •  Perform clinical research activities, including obtaining informed consent, screening, recruiting, and enrolling study participants. Perform subject assessments and follow-ups, and track participants through various study phases. 
  • Collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders, facilitating smooth project operations and clear communication across the research team.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience 
  • Typically, 1 year of experience in research/program management 
  • Understanding of clinical workflows in inpatient and nursing home environments 
  • Understanding of nursing care 
  • Experience with electronic health records 
  • Confidence in recruiting and interacting with nursing staff in clinical settings 
  • Confidence working with persons living with dementia and family caregivers 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Exceptional organizational abilities 
  • High attention to detail and accuracy 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively 
  • Skill in setting priorities and meeting deadlines 
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team  
  • Ability to anticipate needs, problems, and potential issues 
  • Use of judgment, foresight, and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and suggest solutions 
  • Valid driving license and ability to meet and maintain UI Fleet Safety Program driving standards 

 

Desirable Qualifications: 

  • Masters degree in health related field 
  • Experience as a healthcare provider (such as RN, LPN, CNA, MA)  
  • Knowledge of UI Healthcare policies, procedures, regulations, and guidelines 
  • Experience with EPIC  
  • Experience with REDCap  
  • Knowledge of dementia care 
  • Experience in clinical research, particularly in protocol management 
  • Experience screening, recruiting, enrolling, and obtaining informed consent from research subjects 
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and procedures, including IRB guidelines 
  • Experience processing expense reimbursements and compensation
