The Department of Pathology is seeking a Senior IT Support Consultant to serve as the point person for all information technology related aspects in the operation of a high-volume Pathology laboratory in an academic medical center while providing an exceptional level of customer service. Duties include IT systems procurement, monitoring, project management, troubleshooting and resolution, web site content updates, employee supervision, asset management and documentation. This position is 100% time, Monday-Friday, 0800-1630. 

Duties to include:

  • Serve as the liaison between users of information technology systems, including computers, printers, scanners and peripherals, and central IT services
  • Serve as the liaison between users of instrument-connected computing equipment and peripherals in the Department of Pathology and the respective vendors
  • In the role of liaison, provide first level hardware and software technical support (including troubleshooting and issue identification) and triage resolution of complex issues
  • Oversee and manage departmental IT assets and inventory. Develop recommendations and strategies for timely hardware replacement. Evaluate current hardware and software inventories. Develop recommendations and strategies for timely hardware replacement. Researches and recommends software purchases, completes cost/benefit analysis for purchase requests as assigned.
  • Identify needs, trends, and forecasts in order to provide appropriate hardware and software support to internal customers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is required; Academic course work in Computer Science, Medical Lab Science, Bioinformatics or related field is preferred.
  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to complete work thoroughly, accurately and in a timely manner
  • Minimum of three years recent experience with coordinating, and performing, installation, configuration, troubleshooting and maintenance of hardware, operating systems, and software
  • Recent experience developing and implementing technical training and guidance to employees, co-workers and students
  • Experience with employee management, including scheduling, assigning work duties, and completion of performance reviews

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 3 years of recent experience supporting users of information technology systems in a research or clinical healthcare setting is highly desired
  • Recent (within the last one year) experience Drupal or similar content management systems
  • Knowledge of networking, software programming, and security concepts
  • Ability to work and gain relevant additional knowledge and skills in a self-directed manner
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems
