Service Line Senior Financial Analyst
The Senior Service Line Financial Analyst is responsible for financial planning, performance monitoring, and strategic support for defined clinical service lines at UI Health Care. This role will collaborate directly with clinical and executive leadership to present service line financials, support proforma development for new and existing programs, and contribute to enterprise-wide decision-making.
Using Strata Decision Technology, the analyst will present periodic profit and loss statements to clinical teams, clearly highlighting no more than three key financial strengths and three opportunities for improvement. The analyst will actively engage in monthly meetings with service line executive leadership and conduct quarterly on-site rounding to maintain a deep understanding of operational activities.
Position Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight and Budgeting
Partner with clinical leadership to develop annual goals aligned with service line strategic goals.
Track goals utilizing continuous improvement modules
Forecast and monitor performance for each assigned service line.
Identify key revenue and cost drivers and make recommendations for adjustments based on trends.
Financial Reporting
Develop and present comprehensive quarterly P&L statements using Strata.
Analyze and report on volume, charge, revenue, and margin trends, by payer and service.
Ensure consistent and accurate reporting of provider productivity and service line performance.
Combine physician and hospital data to support enterprise-level decision-making.
Tailor reporting for varied audiences, including physicians, administrators, and senior leadership.
Financial Analysis and Planning
Conduct service line profitability analysis and identify drivers of variation.
Utilize Strata continuous improvement module to identify operational efficiencies
Support scenario planning and business case modeling for new initiatives or changes in care delivery.
Develop proformas for new clinical programs, APP/faculty recruitment, and capital or resource investments.
Collaborate with the Strategy Team to validate clinical demand projections for growth opportunities.
Respond to ad hoc analytic requests related to service line operations, financial performance, and business development.
Partner with operational and clinical leaders to set and track annual financial and performance goals aligned with UI Health Care’s institutional strategies.
Compliance with Policies, Regulations, and Laws, and Operational Oversight
Ensure alignment of reporting practices with internal policy and external regulations.
Contribute to the implementation of financial best practices within service lines.
Assist with the preparation of data for external submissions or audits when required.
Transaction Processing
Review and validate financial entries and charge structures as needed for accuracy and completeness.
Collaborate with operational teams to understand and explain variances driven by transaction trends.
Leadership and Training
Lead recurring periodic meetings with executive teams to review financial performance and projections.
Conduct quarterly rounding within service areas to foster relationships and gain insights into operations.
Educate clinical and administrative partners on financial drivers and KPIs.
Present complex data in a meaningful and actionable format for leadership.
Recommend process and data enhancements based on emerging healthcare finance trends.
Accounting
Use methods, processes, and tools for maintaining and preparing financial statements and reports.
Applies cost accounting principles using Strata to support accurate service line reporting and margin analysis.
Financial Analysis
Read, interpret, and draw accurate conclusions from financial and numerical material.
Evaluates service line performance, supports strategic decisions with data-driven insights, and responds to ad hoc analytic needs.
Financial Reporting
Use processes, methods, and tools for creating and maintaining accurate and thorough financial reports.
Develops and delivers detailed and executive-level reporting using Strata, including P&Ls, KPIs, and productivity dashboards.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking
Use data-driven insights to inform financial strategies and operational improvements.
Evaluate financial risks and benefits of proposed initiatives.
Apply analytical techniques to complex financial scenarios
Financial Forecasting and Modeling
Apply forecasting models to hospital and physician financial performance.
Identify and resolve common financial forecasting challenges.
- Use Strata Decision Support tools for scenario modeling and cost forecasting.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, health science, computer science, math, business, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education is required.
3 years of related experience in financial analysisExperience creating and presenting financial reports to a broad audience.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate financial concepts clearly.
Experience with cost accounting systems, such as Strata.
Familiarity with Excel or financial analysis tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment.
Desired Qualifications:
Experience supporting clinical service lines or physician practices.
Experience with provider compensation, KPI reporting, or recruitment proforma development.
Understanding of CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding.
Knowledge of EPIC, Power BI, or Tableau.
Knowledge of UI and UI Health Care policies and procedures.
