Supervisor, Fire Life Safety
Minimum Eligibility Requirements:
- Four years’ experience excluding apprenticeship in the applicable craft, trade or plant service supervised; or the equivalent combination of directly related education and experience.
Special Qualifications:
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet University Driving Policy standards.
- Appropriate certifications in specialized field including NICET (sprinkler/alarm).
Desirable Qualifications:
Personnel oversight and HR administrative:
- Minimum one-year supervisory experience, including assigning daily tasks, monitoring work quality, coordinating schedules, ensuring timely and accurate timekeeping, and conducting performance evaluations; preferably in higher education or public sector environment.
- Five years of related experience, which includes regular participation in activities such as project planning, designing, ensuring code compliance, estimating project costs, investigating problems, recommending actions or similar tasks.
- Intermediate computer skills, including the ability to learn and use specialized software systems, such as: computerized maintenance management system (CMMS; preferably AiM), Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
- Familiarity with HR processes and employee relations at the University of Iowa.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance standards.
- Demonstrated ability to work with and communicate professionally and effectively with university personnel, external contacts, and the public in both written and verbal formats.
- Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
Field/Technical:
- Knowledge of various types of fire extinguishers and their appropriate applications.
- Understanding of fire prevention principles, methods, and techniques.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain equipment, including hand and power tools.
- Capability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Willingness and ability to work in varied environments, including at heights, in confined spaces, poorly lit areas, and in conditions with elevated noise levels or potential exposure to chemical, biological, radiological, neurological, or other environmental hazards.
