Systems Analyst or Systems Administrator
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) intends to hire at either the Systems Analyst or Systems Administrator based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please indicate in your cover letter the position you wish to be considered for or indicate both.
The position of Systems Analyst or Administrator for the University of Iowa College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS) works to support geographic information systems (GIS) throughout the college, and the university. This position works with the Senior GIS Administrator to offer technical support across campus (CLAS TS, ITS, etc.). This position will positioned with CLAS TS but be housed with the School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability (SEES) where they offer instructional, technical support, hardware training, and other relevant support for things related to GIS and geospatial data.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform geospatial data analysis technique as needed to support faculty, staff, and students.
- Provide on-call coverage for routine problems and assist Senior GIS Administrator with more complex issues.
- Develop workflows and documentation to better manage and support systems.
- Provide technical, and administrative, support for instructors and students for a course, lab, program, center, and/or studio. May include support for classroom technologies. Coordinate and provide instruction as directed. Instruct on safe operation of equipment.
- Develop materials for GIS trainings and assist with trainings/teaching as needed.

Systems Analyst
Education Required:
A Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience.
Required Qualifications:
- Academic or Professional related experience working with geospatial data and software including ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
- Demonstrates excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
Desired Qualifications:
- MA/MS in Geography, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science or related field.
- Working experience with the management, deployment, and support of common GIS and remote sensing software (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS and Erdas Imagine).
- Academic or Professional related experience working with or supporting specialized geospatial data and software including QGIS, Erdas Imagine, etc.
- Working experience with providing introductory workshops or training related to GIS software and technology.
- Working experience with troubleshooting in a GIS IT environment.
- Working experience with the management of spatial, temporal, or spatiotemporal data.
Systems Administrator
Education Required:
- MA/MS in Geography, Computer Science, Geographic Information Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

- 3 years Academic or Professional related experience working with geospatial data and software including ESRI ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
Demonstrates excellent oral and written communications skills; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and interpret ideas, information, and needs through appropriate communication methods and behaviors at a working proficiency level.
Desired Qualifications:
