A/V Installation Technician - Specified Term - Office of Teaching, Learning & Technology

Required Qualifications:

• Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to a total of typically 4 years of experience installing and configuring audiovisual technology and/or low-voltage electronics. This could include:
  • A high school diploma or GED and 4 years of experience.
  • An associate’s degree or technical diploma and 2 years of experience.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position.
• Demonstrated proficiency with hand tools and basic power tools.
• Knowledge of construction techniques.
• Ability to routinely move and transport computer and audiovisual equipment up to 50 pounds.  Ability to position self to securely install, mount, and/or hang a wide range of audiovisual equipment and ascend/descend ladders.
• Demonstrated proficiency with consumer electronics (computers, A/V systems, networking, etc.)
• Basic knowledge of the latest trends in audiovisual technology.
• Ability to review and interpret schematic drawings for A/V installation.
• Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a project team. 
• Valid US driver’s license with the ability to meet the University of Iowa’s Fleet Safety Requirements: https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/risk-management-insurance-and-loss-prevention-5

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience terminating and testing Category 5e, 6, and/or 6a cables.
• Basic troubleshooting experience with A/V systems.
• Basic experience installing A/V systems.
