Qualifications:

 

Assistant HR Director:

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience (typically 3-5 years) managing a full range of Human Resources responsibilities (e.g. talent management and labor relations) in a large organization.
  • Experience (typically 3-5 years) managing employee/labor relations issues and leave management policies including Workers Compensation, FMLA, ADA.
  • Commitment to and alignment with the values of the Division of Student Life, including a demonstrated commitment to excellence through diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Superior interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner while creating, promoting, and sustaining an inclusive environment.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to determine the root cause of organizational challenges and find/create resolutions that are in the best interest of the department.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of current federal and state laws, statutes, regulations, policies, and directives pertaining to HR.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software applications including Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and HR Information Systems.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience providing HR support in a college or university setting.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Experience developing and presenting employee/supervisory training; diversity, equity & inclusion training; and/or administering onboarding programs.
  • Experience analyzing and using HR data to make informed decisions and inform other decision-makers.
  • Experience with interpreting & applying University of Iowa (UI) policies and procedures.
  • Professional human resources certification such as Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Society for Human Resources Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), or senior professional human resources certification (SPHR or SHRM-SCP).

 

HR Generalist

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the position; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience (typically 3 years or more) performing HR responsibilities, including conducting confidential investigations, in an HR role or HR environment.
  • Commitment to and alignment with the values of the Division of Student Life, including a demonstrated active commitment to excellence through diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Superior interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong professional relationships with a wide variety of constituents.
  • Working knowledge of current federal and state regulations impacting HR.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience (typically 6 months or more) working with employee and/or labor relations.
  • Experience performing HR responsibilities within a large and/or complex organization.
